‘No Smoking’ Smoke Alarm

I bought two of these devices to see if I could place them in my home to detect cigarette smoke drifting into my unit. I took one of them and walked around the block when I smelt cigarette smoke but the alarm doesn’t sound. It looks like it may only sound if someone was smoking directly into it. In which case, this will act just like a normal smoke alarm, only it may not detect smoke from a fire but only smoke from cigarettes. I am not a smoker so I can’t test if it will sound if I smoke into it. I gave it two stars because I may have bought it to do something it is not designed to do (instead of giving it a one star).

Thank you for your review. Did you change the settings to high sensitivity? The No-Smoking alarm is designed only to detect cigarette, pipe and cigar smoke, not smoke from a fire.

Like the last reviewer, I thought I could place them in my home to detect cigarette smoke drifting into my unit. I have smoke drift into my apartment from a smoker about 6 meters away. I have this set to sensitive, however this has not detected any cigerette smoke. I also am not a smoker so I can’t test if it will sound if I smoke into it.

Thank you for your review. Smoke particles must enter the alarm chamber in order to trigger. Unfortunately, the smell of smoke will not trigger the unit.

I previously reviewed due to not much success however this appears to be working as expected. Inside our unit we get the odd alarm and outside on a day with no wind we get a number of alarms, so this is working under some conditions.
